Utilization of non-conventional systems for conversion of biomass to food components: Potential for utilization of algae in engineered foods

The major nutritional components of the green algae (Scenedesmus obliquus) grown in a Constant Cell density Apparatus were determined. Suitable methodology to prepare proteins from which three major undesirable components of these cells (i.e., cell walls, nucleic acids, and pigments) were either removed or substantially reduced was developed. Results showed that processing of green algae to protein isolate enhances its potential nutritional and organoleptic acceptability as a diet component in a Controlled Ecological Life Support System

Copyright @ 2010 IEEENew wireless subscribers are signing up at an increasing demand of more capacity for ultra-high data rate transfers at speeds more than 1 Gbps, while the radio spectrum is limited. Millimeter wave communication system offers a unique way to resolve these problems. In this paper, the performance of a full duplex transportation system is reported for 1.5 Km of multi-mode fiber length for a sample 10 Gbit/s pseudo random sequence data, with quadrature amplitude modulation mapping and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation with 60 GHz RF and coherent 1550 nm optical carrier. The analysis and simulation results show that the system's quality of service depends on nonlinearity of electro optical modulator, dispersion and signal attenuation impairment of the multi-mode fiber cable

The development of CAD and computer communications demands a new type of graphics tablet of larger dimensions and high precision, using a freely movable pen which is not in any way connected with the tablet. A solution is proposed where in the tablet an omnidirectional surface wave travels, which is induced by the pen. Three antennas, placed at the edges of the tablet, receive this wave. The two phase differences between the three received signals enable the calculation of the pen position. Separation of static and dynamic sources in absence epileptic seizures using depth cortical measurements

International audienceIn this study, we analyze the absence epileptic seizures using the data recorded from different layers of somatosensory cortex of absence epileptic rats. We aim to (1) extract the epileptic activities or sources generating the seizures, and (2) investigate the temporal changes of seizures. To achieve our goals, we describe the recorded seizures by a linear superposition of static and dynamic sources. The static sources are stable and have a fixed structure, while the dynamic sources can be intermittent, and may be with different locations. Retrieving the sources and their structures from the recorded seizures helps us to achieve the desired analysis. Experimental results show the existence of a static source and three specific dynamic sources during the recorded seizures. The dynamic sources randomly activate with the static source and one of them disappears towards the end of the seizures. Moreover, it is shown that the spatial locations of the sources are similar in different absence epileptic rats
